Oh, how I wish I could have visited this one! I was told that Howard's Bookstore was famous for its cats, kept in the store to greet customers. Open since 1970, the store finally closed in 2013 when Joie Canada, the daughter of the original owners, retired and did not want to sell the store. Regarding its closing, she wisely remarked "nobody in their right mind will start a bookstore. It’s like being in the fine buggy business with Henry Ford’s assembly line starting up down the road.”(Herald-Times)
