TIS Bookstore

Final resting place: 1302 E 3rd St

This is the only one of the closed bookstores on this list that I actually visited. I don't remember exactly when they closed, but it was sometime after the pandemic. I definitely went there in the 2019/2020 school year for textbooks. To say the store is 'closed' is actually a half-truth: TIS still exists in the same location, although it isn't a bookstore anymore. "The Indiana Shop", as it's called now, is just another IU merchandise store. Living in a college town, we are absolutely not at all hard-pressed for places where you can buy a tee-shirt with the IU logo slapped on it, but I guess they decided they were getting enough business to add to the pile. As far as the books half of the store went, there's not a whole lot to be said. It was an academic bookstore for buying textbooks. While it's sad when small businesses in general close, I can't say I feel too beat up about the loss of a textbook store.
